# Weight 22.9 Kg

You know the electronics business has come a long way when you encounter a product like the McIntosh MCC602TM. Back in the Golden Days of home audio you might run into a massive stereo amplifier, built like a tank, gorgeous glass face plate with huge glowing blue meters, fully discrete, fully balanced, a classic push-pull capable of 300 watts per channel across 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz with virtually no distortion (0.005%THD). But in car stereo?

It’s a fact. The MCC602TM is just such a beast. Dual MOSFET PWM Regulated power supplies can pull that power from a battery rated at just 12-volts without shutting down everything else in your car or requiring a second deep cycle battery or alternator. You can even bridge this monster to produce 600 watts at the same bandwidth and distortion levels. With this kind of power you probably don’t even need speakers. Just tape the speaker leads to your car door and the amp can shake the whole car. Current output is equally awesome and the system is stable even into 1 ohm.

Balanced noise-canceling inputs are used to eliminate distortion caused by other sources in the car. McIntosh technology allows you to hook these inputs up even if your head unit lacks balanced outputs – these balanced inputs can be directly connected to the bridged speaker outputs of any head unit. An In/Out Pass Through provides easy hookup for multi amp systems. Each input has an individual level control and the inputs are summed for use on the subwoofer output. You can control the sub output through a remote sub level control – a nice feature.

With all this power, you can’t neglect protection – nobody likes car fires or smoked speakers. Here again McIntosh technology comes into play. Power Guard keeps you from over driving the amps. Actually, your ears will probably do this long before the Power Guard does but it’s there as a back up. Sentry Monitor watches the power output stages on all channels. In the unlikely event that power surges dangerous enough to threaten the massive high current output devices suddenly appear, Sentry Monitor will shut down the power supplies and save your amp. Of course, a current surge that massive probably means your car has been struck by lightning, so the amp might be the only thing not cooked. Multi-stage Thermal protection uses temperature monitors mounted in the extruded aluminum cooling tunnel to control a variable-speed cooling fan. Although normally off, this fan will automatically turn on and will increase its speed as additional cooling is needed.

On the short list of Amps-O-The Gods, the mighty McIntosh MCC602TM is a prominent resident. Incredible build, sophisticated power supplies, huge power and current output, attention to detail in both construction and performance, and – superficial though it is – those incredible glowing blue meters and visible Autoformers gleaming through that famous glass top panel – the MCC602TM is the stuff car audio dreams are made of.

The MCC301M Mono Amplifier, a unique Double Balanced design takes a carefully tuned amplifier with complimentary balanced circuitry, and operates it in a push-pull configuration with its output, successfully canceling virtually all distortion. Typical mid-frequency distortion readings into 4-ohms are a ridiculous 0.0005 percent. Against this spotless background any input noise would be a problem, so noise-canceling balanced inputs are provided.

To handle the wind and road noise, the MCC301M uses a temperature sensing high current power supply to serve up 600 watts into 2 ohms (12VDC) current 50 amperes. That’s close to arc welding levels – serious current.

An extra RCA output on the amp simplifies linking a multi-amp configuration and an input level control provides variable sensitivities from 500mV to 8VRMS, making it easy to match any head or control center. To prevent clipping, McIntosh’s exclusive Power Guard circuits monitor the output and there is speaker protection against DC voltage. Installer features include an internal one-band EQ with a variable frequency of 40Hz to 2kHz, a fixed Q of 2, and a variable level of +/- 12 dB; a built-in low pass crossover system with a 24dB slope and a variable frequency of between 40 and 120Hz, and a selectable subsonic filter (20 or 28Hz, 18dB/octave). True to its McIntosh origin, the MCC301M creates magical sound with near limitless power from a package whose styling is classic and timeless – the soft blue glow of a peak responding meter against shiny black glass.
